Assessment
Accurate assessment of a problem or referral question is the sine quo non of sound psychological practice. The two ways in which I can gather information are via talking and psychological testing. In an initial consultation meeting, we will decide together with whom I would talk in order to obtain the data I need to be constructive. We may decide as well to include some testing in order to add information to that which will come from talking.
Psycho-educational testing, where appropriate, may include assessment of cognitive, academic, occupational, or emotional functioning. Data obtained from testing are applied to aid us in attaining the goal of removing the obstacles that interfere with effective performance professionally and personally.
At times, I am called on to act as a consultant to give a second opinion regarding a question that has already been evaluated by other professionals. For example, as a certified school as well as licensed psychologist, I can provide outside evaluations for families seeking another opinion regarding a child's functioning at school. Similarly, I may be asked by physicians for my opinion regarding the diagnosis of individuals who have sought psychopharmacological therapy or medical procedures about which the doctor or patient my have questions.

Psychotherapy
For over 25 years, I have worked with individuals, families, couples, and groups. My goal has been the removal of obstacles that interfere with leading a satisfying and productive life.
During this time, I have learned that there are many different ways to attain this goal. Some approaches are helpful to some while others require something different. It is my job (through some assessment) to adapt to those who consult me. By attuning myself to others, I am able to be in sync and offer the kind and amount of input that each individual may require.
Working with children and families has been of longstanding interest to me. When kids and parents consult me, they often have tried various strategies to manage their life together with a degree of success than is less than ideal. For this reason, the treatment of children involves talking with parents regularly so that we can collaborate and be certain that we are moving in the desired direction.
